Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

I went to see PotC 2 last night. It was in City Screen 1, and was being shown in digital. It amazes me how much been digital projection looks compared to traditional 35mm. The pictures were bright, vibrant and pin sharp without a single glitch or blemish. If only the same could be said about the film.

Here be spoilers )

DLP Cinema

Last night I went to City Screen to see the frankly pretty bad 'A Cock And Bull Story'. What was considerably more interesting than the film was the fact that Screen 2 now features a DLP Digital Cinema Projector. I have previously seen a film projected digitally in screen 2, but that was using a normal projector and what looked like a dvd as the source. There were artifacts on the screen and it really didn't look that good. Last night was different though: a crisp, clear picture that was brighter than a normal 35mm projector and not a scratch or blemish to be seen. The edges of the picture were also razor sharp which made a nice change for the blurriness you get normally.

I wonder if the other screens will be following suit?

Cheap Films

I'm a member of City Screen now and tonight was the first time I'd been since I got my snazzy membership card. I was a bit skeptical that I'd be able to do this, but I combined my membership with my Orange Wednesday ticket and got two tickets for £3. £1.50 each! I think I speak for both myself and [info]cialin_ciuin when I say "Score!".

p.s. Match Point is great, I urge you to see it.

Top Five Films

I saw King Kong today, and while it was very good I haven't had time to properly digest it and so it doesn't feature in this chart. Perhaps in the future I will decide that I should include it... Anyway, on with the five that made it...

5. Sin City
4. Broken Flowers
3. Serenity
2. Garden State
And at number 1... )

Anyone who isn't literally dribbling at the prospect of The Movies being released very soon needs to pop over to Yahoo VideoGames and watch the new walk-through movie that they've posted - [Link] (95.4MB)

400 Films

With Monster's Ball tonight I reached 400 films voted for on IMDb. It's 303 days since I reached 300 films, giving me an average of a new film every 3.03 days (complicated maths there!) - that's slightly down on my average for the previous hundred, I'll have to work harder!

Get A Cinema Ticket Refund From Sony!

Sony has settled claims that it invented a reviewer for quotes on the movie poster for A Knights Tale, The Patriot, Vertical Limit and The Animal. Cinema goers can claim a $5 (£2.80) refund if they brought a ticket for an American theatrical showing of the film.

Unfortunately while I have seen three of the four films they weren't theatrical showings and they weren't in America :-(

H2G2

I'm off to see the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy soon, is it bad that I'm this excited about it?

Oh, and I just confused someone by using the abbreviation H2G2 without even thinking that they might not know what it meant!

Tremors

Tonight myself and [info]erunamo finished watching the fourth and final Tremors movie and I can safely say that, perhaps apart from the first, they're all rubbish but pretty good fun to watch!

My IMDb scores go as follows...

Tremors - 7
Tremors 2: Aftershocks - 5
Tremors 3: Back To Perfection - 6
Tremors 4: The Legend Begins - 6

Last Star Wars to be 'emotional'

According to George Lucas the new Star Wars film will be more emotional, it will be like 'Titanic in space'. [Link].

Oh my god. Just how bad is it going to be?

Google To Out Do IMDb

It looks like Google is at it again. Just in time for the Oscars they have announced a new movie: operator that lets you search for movie information.

Looking for a film with a movie:"green blob"?

How about reviews for Finding Neverland?

The only downside I can see is that if you know the name of the movie you're looking it asks you where in the US you are it can tell you when the film is showing. There doesn't appear to be an easy route to the reviews page.

Of course it is all quick, slick and has the typical Google humour - at the bottom of the reviews page it states "The selection and placement of reviews on this page were determined automatically by a computer program. No movie critics were harmed or even used in the making of this page.">

Star Wars III To Open Cannes

After month of negotiation Star Wars Episode III will open this years Cannes Film Festival. Link.

What the hell? What is a film like Star Wars doing opening the most prestudious film festival in the world? I know Cannes has been getting more and more commercial over the years, but this is just ridiculous!

I saw House Of Flying Daggers today, and while it was very good, it doesn't make it to my top 5 films...

5. The Village
4. Shaun Of The Dead
3. 21 Grams
2. Lost In Translation
And at number one... )

300 down, how many to go?

A while ago I made a post saying I'd voted for 200 films on IMDb. Tonight I hit the next big milestone, 300 films! That last post was 226 days ago, meaning I've watched new films more than one every three days, and that doesn't include films I'd seen before or seen more than once in that time (I've seen Kill Bill Volume 2 three times since then...)

In that post I told you my top and bottom ranked films, so for comparision here's what they look like now.

Top Films (all scoring 10/10)

Exorcist, The (1973)
Gattaca (1997)
Ghost World (2000)
Ghost In The Shell (1995)
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The (2003)
Matrix, The (1999)
Princess Mononoke (1997)
Schindler's List (1993)

Last time the lowest score I'd given was a four, since then one film has deserved less than that. My new all-time worst film, with a score of just three, is...

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

And trust me, it really is that bad!

Roll on 400!

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow has been pushed back from a July release to mid-September (at the earliest)...

I was looking forward to seeing this, hopefully they won't push it back any further.

Ain't It Cool News

Hummm, in the Ain't It Cool News review of the new Harry Potter film they describe Emma Watson (Hermione) as "a miniature adolescent Grace Kelly" - talk about putting pressure on a girl! I guess this one must be a hell of a lot better than the previous two!
